Las obras expuestas tienen como hilo conductor la idea arquetípica del guardián, aquellas entidades supraterrenales que protegen individuos, comunidades, lugares u objetos sagrados. En antropología se denominan apotropaicos, son las gárgolas que defienden las catedrales del mal que acecha, los demonios coléricos tibetanos (Dharmapalas) que cuidan la enseñanza de Buda, la mezuzá de los hogares judíos, la Hamsa (o Mano de Fátima) de los judíos y musulmanes.Con una técnica personal de pintura de doble capa de aspecto metalizado Diego Cienfuegos creó una serie de obras -generalmente pareadas- con la figura del Samurái, gárgola, demonio colérico, león Fo, grifo, ángel y otros, con un lenguaje que se mueve entre la abstracción geométrica y la figuración. Los reflejos de las pinturas metalizadas son metáfora de la luz que combate la oscuridad, poniendo en escena la lucha más ancestral entre el día y la noche, el bien y el mal. Un Gran Ángel de cuerpo dorado y alas transparente fue diseñado especialmente para colgar entre las columnas del espacio VITRIOL; el ángel es el protector más popular del cristianismo, a cargo de la seguridad del individuo, y una de las jerarquías angelicales junto con los Arcángeles, Principados, Potestades, Virtudes, Dominaciones, Tronos, Querubines y Serafines.Dada la vecindad de VITRIOL con el Gran Templo de la Masonería, hemos elegido el término GuardaTemplo (oficial de la logia que pone el templo a resguardo de los profanos) para designar la forma arquetípica del centinela atento a espantar las formas del mal y que Diego Cienfuegos ha reinterpretado siguiendo la tradición de algunas de las figuras con una técnica personal y novedosa.

The works exhibited have as their common thread the archetypal idea of the guardian, those supraterrestrial entities that protect individuals, communities, places or sacred objects. In anthropology they are called apotropaic, they are the gargoyles that defend the cathedrals from the evil that lurks, the angry Tibetan demons (Dharmapalas) that guard the teaching of Buddha, the mezuzah of Jewish homes, the Hamsa (or Hand of Fatima) of the Jews and Muslims. With a personal double-layer painting technique with a metallic appearance, Diego Cienfuegos created a series of works - generally paired - with the figure of the Samurai, gargoyle, angry demon, Fo lion, griffin, angel and others, with a language that It moves between geometric abstraction and figuration. The reflections of the metallic paints are a metaphor for the light that fights the darkness, staging the most ancient struggle between day and night, good and evil. A Great Angel with a golden body and transparent wings was specially designed to hang between the columns of the VITRIOL space; The angel is the most popular protector of Christianity, in charge of the safety of the individual, and one of the angelic hierarchies along with the Archangels, Principalities, Powers, Virtues, Dominations, Thrones, Cherubim and Seraphim. La XIII Bienal de Arte Sacro Contemporáneo exhibió las 47 obras que resultaron seleccionadas del concurso de artes visuales, en el que se invitó a creadores a reflexionar sobre lo sagrado, como expresión de la trascendencia del hombre hacia lo divino.
El resultado es una gran muestra que reunió casi cincuenta obras de distintas disciplinas como dibujo, escultura, fotografía, pintura, instalaciones, video y arte digital. Estos trabajos reflejan la mirada de diferentes artistas, desde una perspectiva popular, abstracta, mística o enraizada en la tradición regional.

El jurado de selección estuvo integrado por Ofelia Manzi, Raúl Flores y Carlos Herrera. Participaron de la convocatoria más de 500 artistas.
